#001: This Is Where Your Mission and Money Goals Meet

Jan 15, 2025

Hey you. I’m Jan Ditchfield, and I couldn’t be more excited to welcome you to the very first episode of The Business of Good. This isn’t just the start of a podcast; it’s the beginning of a movement—one where mission-driven women like you learn how to make more money, create a bigger impact, and build businesses that align with your values.

If you’ve ever felt stuck between your mission and your money goals, you’re in the right place. I’ve been there, too, and I’m here to show you that you don’t have to choose—you can have both.

Why I Left No BS Business School

Some of you might know me from my previous podcast, No BS Business School. It was a huge part of my journey and connected me with so many incredible women. But over time, I realized it wasn’t fully capturing the bigger mission I felt called to champion.

The truth is, I wanted to do more than share business tips. I wanted to show purpose-driven women how to turn their missions into something bigger—how to marry profit with purpose to create real, sustainable impact.

Walking away from No BS wasn’t easy. It was a part of my identity. But sometimes, we have to let go of something good to make space for something great. If you’ve ever felt the nudge to pivot—to align more deeply with your values—let this be your sign that it’s okay to evolve.

Why This Podcast Exists

Over two decades in the nonprofit world taught me one powerful lesson: businesses have the potential to change the world—when they’re built with purpose.

I’ve raised over $25 million for causes that matter. I’ve founded national award-winning organizations. But I’ve also seen the challenges: nonprofits often struggle with financial sustainability, while for-profits sometimes lose sight of purpose.

What if we combined the best of both worlds? What if we built businesses that were both profitable and impactful? That’s what The Business of Good is all about.

What You Can Expect

Each week, we’re diving into strategies, stories, and frameworks to help you:

  • Make More Money: Learn ethical marketing strategies, scalable sales systems, and step-by-step guides to grow your revenue.
  • Create a Bigger Impact: Discover how to align profit with purpose to amplify your mission.
  • Build a Legacy: Hear inspiring stories from women who are proof that you can do well financially while doing good in the world.

From teaching episodes to interviews with incredible women, to listener Q&As and live coaching sessions, every episode is designed to support your growth and success.

Profit Isn’t a Dirty Word

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: guilt. So many women feel conflicted about wanting financial success, as if it diminishes the good they’re trying to do. But let me be clear: wanting to earn more doesn’t make you greedy—it makes you resourceful.

Profit isn’t the enemy. It’s the fuel. When you’re profitable, you can:

  • Amplify your mission.
  • Scale your impact.
  • Create a legacy that lasts beyond you.

Here’s what I’ve learned: you don’t have to burn out or sacrifice your values to succeed. In fact, standing firm in your ethics attracts the right clients, partners, and opportunities.
