#016: What’s Your Business REALLY For? Why It’s Time to Dream Bigger Than Profit

Apr 09, 2025

You didn’t start your business just to hit revenue goals and cross things off a to-do list.
You started it because something in you knew there had to be a different way to live and work.
A more meaningful way.

But if you’re anything like me—or the incredible women I work with—somewhere between the funnels, the launches, the sales pages, and the social media strategy… that deeper “why” can get a little quiet.

This week on The Business of Good, we’re bringing it back.

This one’s for the woman who built something real, who’s proud of how far she’s come… but who’s starting to feel like maybe there’s more. A new kind of growth. A new kind of goal.

Let’s Talk About What Comes After Profit

We all start our businesses hoping they’ll work—because we need them to. We want freedom, flexibility, financial stability. That’s the first season of business (and it’s such an important one).

But what happens after that?

I call it the shift from profit to purpose.

It’s that quiet voice that starts asking, “What else am I building here?”
It’s the day you hit a revenue milestone and feel… underwhelmed.
It’s when the dream stops being just about numbers and starts being about meaning.

And friend, if you’re feeling that—please know you’re not crazy.
You’re evolving.

The 3 Stages of Business Desire

Here’s something I see over and over again (and yep, I’ve lived it too):

  1. Stability — You’re trying to prove this thing works. You want clients, income, a real paycheck.

  2. Sustainability — You’ve proven it works, now you want it to work without running you into the ground. Hello boundaries, systems, and breathing room.

  3. Significance — You’re asking bigger questions. You want your work to matter. You’re here to do something that lasts.

There’s no perfect timeline. You can straddle two at once. But recognizing where you are can help you figure out what you really want next.

Redefining What “Success” Looks Like

We’re conditioned to believe success is a dollar amount. Or a viral reel. Or a 7-figure launch.

But for the women I work with—women like you—success looks different.

It might look like:

  • Donating a percentage of your income to a cause that lights you up

  • Taking Fridays off to volunteer or rest

  • Building a team that reflects your values

  • Using your business as a platform for change

  • Creating a ripple effect that outlives your brand

These goals count. They’re real. And they deserve to sit alongside your revenue goals—not behind them.

You Don’t Need to Wait to Dream Bigger

You don’t need to have a million followers.
You don’t need a perfect strategy.
You don’t need to wait for “someday.”

You just need to come back to the reason you started.
And start dreaming again.

Inside the episode, I walk through how to reconnect with your deeper vision, how to create what I call a “legacy list,” and how to start talking about your bigger purpose—without feeling like you need a perfectly worded mission statement.

Because honestly? The moment you start sharing your heart, your people will show up. (They always do.)

Let’s Go There—Together

If this episode lit a little fire under you… good. That was the point.
